Todd and Julie Chrisley are experiencing the joy of being home for the holidays after two long years spent away from their family due to their prison sentences. For the first time since surrendering to incarceration, the couple is reunited with their loved ones this festive season.
The Chrisleys, known for their popular reality series “Chrisley Knows Best,” were convicted in 2022 on charges of federal bank fraud and tax evasion. Facing serious consequences, Todd, aged 56, was sentenced to 12 years while Julie, 52, received a seven-year sentence. They both started serving their sentences on January 17, 2023.
After serving a total of 28 months, the couple was released last May thanks to pardons granted by former President Donald Trump. Their release has brought immense relief and happiness as they can celebrate the holidays together.
During an interview with Fox News Digital, Todd and Julie expressed their excitement about celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas as a family.
“The thing that matters the most is us being together again,” Todd emphasized. “Christmas is a big deal for Julie, and she has already begun decorating. We are just really happy to be back to our normal lives and with our family once again.”
Julie shared her own sentiments, confirming the joy of being together during the holiday season. “Christmas is tough without your family, so we see this as a true blessing to be united once more,” she stated.
The Chrisleys have been married since 1996 and have three children together: sons Chase, 29, and Grayson, 19, and daughter Savannah, 28. Additionally, Todd is the father of daughter Lindsie, 36, and son Kyle, 34, from a previous marriage.
Last Christmas, Savannah opened up about the challenges of celebrating without her parents for the second consecutive year. Notably, she had worked tirelessly to achieve their pardons, showcasing her dedication to her family. During a December 2024 episode of her podcast “Unlocked,” Savannah and her grandmother, Nanny Faye Chrisley, had an emotional discussion about coping with the absence of Todd and Julie during the previous holiday season.
“Obviously, mom and dad are not here, which is shocking,” Savannah shared during the poignant conversation.
Nanny Faye responded, assuring Savannah that better times are ahead. “Our hearts are heavy, but we will not let negativity prevail. Nothing lasts forever. This too shall pass, and we will emerge stronger,” she expressed.
During their time apart, Savannah took on the responsibility of being the legal guardian for her younger siblings, Chloe and Grayson. She made the heartfelt decision to create new holiday experiences by planning an international trip for Christmas rather than the traditional family gathering.
“Last year, I cooked a full meal for the kids and invited friends over. It was great, but the absence of Mom and Dad loomed large. Trying to maintain the same normalcy wasn’t in anyone’s best interest,” Savannah explained. “This year, I asked the kids whether they wanted gifts or experiences. They chose to travel.”
Nanny Faye, meanwhile, plans to celebrate the holidays with her son Randy. Her husband, Gene Raymond Chrisley, passed away in 2012, leaving behind a legacy treasured in the family.
Savannah’s relentless public campaign for her parents’ pardons included meeting with officials in Washington and participating in various events to generate awareness about their case. She even utilized her social media platforms to shed light on the perceived injustices they faced.
When the day of the pardon arrived, Savannah shared emotions on social media, revealing that Trump had personally informed her that the paperwork was signed. Todd recounted their call with the President post-release, citing his kind words that served as encouragement during such challenging times.
“He congratulated us on coming home and told us we looked great,” Todd recalled. “President Trump has been generous to our family, and his kindness meant a lot to us.”
Now, Todd and Julie are excited to host their family at their Nashville home for Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations. Julie excitedly anticipates preparing traditional holiday meals, proclaiming, “I can’t wait!”
Todd mentioned that they won’t be introducing any new holiday traditions this year. Instead, they will stick to their beloved customs, which have become a hallmark of their family celebrations. He shared how he had already prepared his holiday shopping list months in advance.
“I think our holidays will stay as they always have been. We cherish Christmas, and I love giving gifts to my family, making it a festive occasion,” Todd explained with a fond smile.
Julie echoed his sentiments, adding that their focus this year would be on appreciating every moment together, especially after the time they spent apart.
Reflecting on their experiences, Todd and Julie acknowledged that their time in prison has significantly influenced their parenting. Their children had to adjust to a life without them, prompting the couple to reevaluate their roles as parents.
“I believe our children matured during our absence. They adapted, and for that, we relinquish some control knowing they emerged strong,” Julie noted.
“This experience allowed us to view our adult children in a completely new light. We recognize their individual strengths and struggles, which have enriched our understanding of them as individuals rather than just our kids,” Todd admitted.
Looking ahead, Todd and Julie have ambitions of establishing a permanent home in Charleston, South Carolina, while temporarily relocating to Texas. This strategic move will allow them to continue filming and engage in new projects.
“We plan to build our forever home in Charleston, but for now, Texas is where we will resume filming various shows,” Todd shared. Their vision includes creating a family-oriented compound where they hope their children will join them.
“This home will be a space for Chase, Savannah, Grayson, and of course, Nanny Faye. We envision a long-lasting gathering place for our family to come together for generations to come,” he expressed enthusiastically.
With their hearts full of hope and determination, Todd and Julie Chrisley are ready to embrace the upcoming holidays and build a brighter future together.
