Tom Homan Highlights Historic Success in Trump’s Border Security Approach

In a striking assessment of the Trump administration’s border policies, former border czar Tom Homan declared that President Trump’s leadership resulted in the most secure border in U.S. history. He shared that Border Patrol encountered just 95 illegal immigrants in a single day, a number he proclaimed as unprecedented.

In a post on social media platform X, Homan stated, “In the last 24 hours, the Border Patrol encountered a total of 95 illegal aliens across the entire southern border. That is the lowest number EVER recorded.” He contrasted this figure with the Biden administration’s record, noting, “Compare that to the Biden administration, who surpassed more than 10,000 [illegal immigrants] per day.”

Homan emphasized the stark difference in approaches, claiming the Biden administration has released the majority of illegal immigrants that border patrol agents encountered. He rhetorically questioned, “How many were released under Trump for May? Zero.”

Furthermore, Homan reported that in May 2024, the Biden administration released 62,000 illegal immigrants, marking a significant uptick in encounters compared to the previous administration.

The achievement of recording a two-digit number at the border was a notable milestone for the Trump administration. As Homan elaborated, the latest statistics indicate a well-secured border, a claim supported by Border Patrol officers who reported decreased activity and even expressed boredom due to the low number of migrants crossing.

Recently, Homan’s observations resonated with an overarching trend since Trump returned to his presidential role in January. The former border czar pointed out past achievements as evidence of effective policy, recalling that earlier this year, the administration released a remarkably low number of illegal immigrants.

Back in April, Homan noted a shocking figure of just nine illegal aliens released, which stood in stark contrast to the prior administration’s practice of releasing hundreds or thousands in a single day. This significant reduction underscored the efficiency of Trump’s border management strategy.

Addressing the nine individuals who were released, Homan explained the exceptional circumstances behind those decisions. He stated, “Four of them were material witnesses in a criminal investigation. We needed them here to testify in a serious criminal trial. Four were in extreme medical condition, and we couldn’t return them because we were in such bad shape. One was a humanitarian issue.”

Inside the broader context of border control, U.S. Customs and Border Protection data reveals the magnitude of the situation. On December 22, 2023, the agency reported that 4,832 illegal immigrants were released on that day alone, while there were just under 9,000 migrant encounters during that period.

At the same time, there were 1,400 releases at the ports of entry, attributed to the use of the CBP One app. This app was designed to prompt individuals seeking entry into the country on the next steps, though it has since been replaced with the CBP Home app aimed at encouraging self-deportation for those residing illegally in the country.

As discussions of border security evolve, Homan’s statements ignite ongoing debates over immigration policies. He advocates for the passage of what he called the Big Beautiful Bill to make lasting progress on border issues and fulfill the American public’s desire for stringent immigration enforcement.

In his social media announcement, Homan succinctly stated, “To continue this great work and make it more permanent, we need the Big Beautiful Bill passed so we can finish the job, to include the biggest deportation operation the American people voted for. God bless the men and women of U.S. Customs and Border Protection and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. President Trump is the Game Changer!” His declaration reflects the sentiments of those who support tighter border control measures.

The situation at the border continues to be a focal point in American politics, with each administration presenting contrasting narratives around immigration and security. As the numbers suggest, changes in policy can have profound impacts on border management and immigration patterns.

As this issue persists, the effectiveness of policies, numbers of illegal encounters, and the management of immigration will likely remain hot topics in political discourse. Observers continue to analyze how these factors will shape the evolving landscape of American immigration.

In summary, Homan’s assertions underscore a crucial moment for border security discussions. The implications of these statistics drive ongoing debates about the direction of U.S. immigration policy. As each administration takes a different approach, the American public remains attentive to the changes and challenges presented by immigration at the national level.
