Top Medical School Accused of Concealing DEI Office to Avoid Accountability Amid Trump Administration Policies

This article is part of Fox News Digital’s investigative series Campus Radicals.

EXCLUSIVE: One of the nation’s leading medical schools faces allegations of attempting to obscure its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts by relocating its DEI office to a restricted area. The Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis allegedly continues its DEI initiatives despite the Trump administration’s crackdown on such practices.

America First Legal stated, “Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis didn’t dismantle its illegal ‘Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion’ regime. Instead, they hid their DEI office on a restricted floor. America First Legal found it.” This organization has been vocal about the matter, emphasizing its critical investigation.

According to America First Legal, the medical school moved its DEI office from the first-floor public location to the 12th floor of the Mid Campus Center. The 12th floor is reportedly a restricted-access area not included in the university’s official floor plan, prompting concerns of transparency.

The pro-Trump legal group expressed their belief that the university is trying to “evade accountability” in their communications with Fox News Digital.

Allegations of Continued DEI Practices

First Legal attorney Megan Redshaw provided insight, stating, “Washington University isn’t just quietly keeping its DEI empire alive, it’s flaunting it.” Redshaw criticized the institution for its apparent defiance of legal standards, stating that rather than dismantling its discriminatory DEI programs, the university formed a committee aimed at preserving these efforts under a new title, keeping them behind closed doors.

This committee, announced in July, was termed the “Inclusive Excellence Advisory Committee”. The university characterized it as a method to align its community-focused goals with federal regulations.

Congressional Concerns Over DEI Funding

As federal funding becomes contingent on compliance with guidelines that discourage DEI measures, universities across the nation face scrutiny. The Trump administration has taken significant steps, including executive orders aimed at eliminating DEI programs in favor of merit-based policies that do not rely on race or gender.

In light of these developments, Will Hild, Executive Director of Consumers’ Research, remarked that government entities and corporations will not abandon DEI initiatives easily. He predicts that they may start rebranding their existing efforts to comply with new regulations.

Historical Criticism of Washington University School of Medicine

Washington University School of Medicine has attracted criticism in the past for promoting what some have termed a “woke” agenda. In a recent incident, the school faced backlash for a curriculum asserting that the Body Mass Index embodies racial bias, along with advocating for the use of puberty blockers in children.

In another instance, a lecturer at the medical school was captured on video advising students against debating her views on critical race theory and systemic oppression, threatening to silence dissent effectively.

Legal Actions and Complaints Filed

This September, America First Legal took further action by filing a civil rights complaint with the Department of Justice. They described the DEI practices at Washington University as among the most systemic and unlawful in the nation.

In September, the legal group argued that millions of taxpayer dollars from the Biden administration funded projects that allegedly embed racial quotas and ideological indoctrination into medical training.

Calls for Accountability and Legal Consequences

Redshaw emphasized the need for accountability, stating, “This is a taxpayer-funded institution operating as if Supreme Court precedents and federal civil rights laws do not apply to them. Hiding DEI behind restricted access isn’t transparency — it’s contempt.”

America First Legal pledges to hold Washington University and similar institutions accountable, affirming that equal protection under the law is non-negotiable. They assert that the era of race-based governance in higher education has come to an end.

Efforts to engage Washington University for comment received no response from the institution.

America First Legal President Gene Hamilton summarized the situation by reiterating that the law explicitly prohibits racial discrimination. He remarked, “The law’s command is leveled at the action, not the name. Institutions that continue to ignore this basic principle will face serious legal repercussions.”
