The official causes of death for Robin Kaye, a music executive known for her role in the popular show ‘American Idol’, and her husband Thomas DeLuca have been confirmed. Both victims were found dead due to multiple gunshot wounds, according to the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s office.
At the time of their deaths, Kaye and DeLuca were both 70 years old. The manner of death for the couple has been classified as homicide. This confirmation comes despite the autopsy reports not yet being made public.
Details surrounding the tragedy reveal that DeLuca succumbed to his injuries almost immediately after being shot at approximately 4:45 p.m. on July 10. Kaye died shortly afterward, just minutes after the attack.
The couple, who resided in Encino, were discovered deceased inside their home on July 14, during a welfare check initiated by a concerned friend. This friend, who had not heard from them in several days, prompted authorities to act. Upon arriving, officers noticed several signs of disturbance outside the property. They had to break a window to enter and found Kaye and DeLuca lifeless.
Significantly, Kaye and DeLuca had just missed a police presence that had been outside their home around the time they were shot. Reports indicate that they returned home only 25 minutes after officers left, following a neighbor’s report about an individual climbing the fence.
A second emergency call was made shortly after Kaye and DeLuca arrived home. The caller reported a break-in, pleading, “don’t shoot me,” as reported by NBC4 Los Angeles. Investigators later confirmed that the call’s GPS coordinates matched Kaye and DeLuca’s residence.
Detectives suspect that the assailant, identified as 22-year-old Raymond Boodarian, gained access to the home by scaling a fence and entering through an unlocked door. According to LAPD Lt. Guy Golan, the suspect had been in the house for approximately half an hour when Kaye and DeLuca returned, leading to a violent confrontation.
Tragically, both victims sustained fatal injuries during this struggle, and the assailant fled the scene on foot. Boodarian was apprehended in connection to the double homicide a day later, on July 15.
As of now, Boodarian has yet to enter a plea. A judge scheduled a mental competency hearing, with the next court appearance postponed to September 3.
In the aftermath of this shocking incident, residents of Encino voiced their worries over increasing crime in the area. A town hall meeting took place on July 21, where community members gathered to discuss safety concerns. Heather Michaels, a representative from the Encino Neighborhood Council, stated at the meeting, “This murder could have been avoided. The community feels unsafe. They are frightened. A lot of the elderly don’t even want to come out of their homes.”
Interestingly, Kaye and DeLuca had attended a neighborhood safety meeting just the evening prior to their deaths. Capt. Mike Bland shared at the subsequent meeting how he had conversed with Kaye and DeLuca, emphasizing the importance of community safety and the need for increased police patrols in the days following the tragic event.
The situation has sparked discussions about crime rates and safety measures in suburban neighborhoods, which many residents believe are decreasing. Citizens have called for more accessible resources and support to prevent future incidents of violence.
The deaths of Robin Kaye and Thomas DeLuca not only mark a profound loss for family and friends but also send ripples through the entertainment community. Kaye was well-respected in her role within the music industry and had made significant contributions to ‘American Idol’, influencing many aspiring musicians over the years.
As the investigation continues and the community mourns, the need for solutions to prevent such tragedies from occurring remains crucial. The disturbing reality of gun violence and the struggle against crime weigh heavily on the minds of many Encino residents.
The lasting impact of Kaye and DeLuca’s passing will serve as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance and support in ensuring the safety of neighborhoods. Local officials and residents alike must work together to foster a safer environment in the wake of this heart-wrenching event.
While the investigation continues, it is imperative for the community of Encino to come together, addressing its safety concerns proactively. Maintaining open lines of communication with local law enforcement will also be essential. Citizens must engage in community programs focusing on crime prevention and safety awareness.
Additionally, fostering neighborhood watch programs can empower residents to look out for one another, creating a sense of security that can help restore peace to the area. Initiatives encouraging safe practices and providing resources can also aid in mitigating fears surrounding crime.
As more information comes to light regarding the incident and the ongoing investigation, the community stands in solidarity, hoping for healing and strength moving forward. Ensuring safety in neighborhoods remains a shared responsibility, one that requires commitment, vigilance, and cooperation from all. In memory of Robin Kaye and Thomas DeLuca, efforts must persist to ensure that no other families face similar tragedies in their own homes.
