A devastating incident has claimed the life of a promising young athlete. Lauren Turner, a 19-year-old women’s soccer player at Cal State Fullerton, passed away on November 7 following severe injuries sustained in a traffic collision involving electric scooters.
Turner and her teammate Ashlyn Gwynn were struck by a box truck while riding their scooters in California on September 27. This tragic event occurred just weeks ago, leading to a profound outpouring of grief from the university community and beyond.
The incident unfolded during the early evening hours, around 7 p.m. After receiving reports of a traffic accident, law enforcement arrived at the scene to find both young women lying in the roadway with serious, life-threatening injuries. Initial investigations revealed that the players were riding in the southbound lane of the street when they were hit by a box truck traveling in the same direction.
At the time of the accident, authorities indicated that neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to be factors contributing to the crash. The Fullerton Police Department is continuing to investigate this tragic incident, which has drawn attention from local news outlets and the community.
The loss of Lauren Turner has left the Cal State Fullerton Athletics Department shattered. In a heartfelt press release, the university confirmed her passing and expressed the collective sorrow of athletes, students, and staff.
