Kelley Mack, recognized for her notable roles in popular television series ‘The Walking Dead’ and ‘9-1-1,’ has passed away at the age of 33. The news was confirmed by her sister to Fox News Digital.
Born Kelley Lynne Klebenow, Mack died peacefully on August 2 in her hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio. She had been courageously battling cancer, specifically glioma of the central nervous system, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer.
Mack disclosed her diagnosis in an emotional Instagram post back in January. She detailed the onset of her symptoms, which included persistent lower back pain, neuropathic itching, and shooting pains that significantly impacted her mobility.
In her post, she recounted, “In September, I moved into a new apartment with my boyfriend, Logan. Shortly after, I began experiencing intense discomfort that led to sleepless nights, forcing me to use a recliner instead of my bed.”
On Thanksgiving Eve, after a series of emergency MRIs, she learned that an abnormal mass had developed in her spinal cord. Mack went on to reveal her diagnosis of diffuse midline glioma, resulting in significant physical challenges including the loss of mobility in her legs.
Her updates throughout her illness demonstrated incredible resilience. Just days before her passing, she shared a moving video on March 26, showcasing her determination to re-learn how to walk.
Kelley Mack was born on July 10, 1992. Raised in a supportive community across various states including Ohio, Missouri, Illinois, and North Carolina, she later pursued her education at Chapman University in California, where she earned a degree in Cinematography.
She gained recognition for her performance as Addy in Season 9 of ‘The Walking Dead.’ In addition to her role on this iconic series, she appeared as Penelope Jacobs in the medical drama ‘Chicago Med’ and was involved in various national commercial campaigns, including one memorable spot for Rakuten filmed alongside her mother.
Mack’s talents extended beyond acting. She was a passionate filmmaker with five producer credits to her name, including the horror feature ‘On The Black,’ which premiered at the Atlanta Horror Film Festival and received the Jury Choice Award.
Her journey in storytelling began at an early age when she received a mini video camera as a birthday gift. Her first major role as Chloe in the 2008 independent film ‘The Elephant Garden’ earned her recognition at the Tribeca Film Festival and an Acting Award from the prestigious Tisch School of the Arts.
Alongside her film work, Kelley Mack contributed her voice to high-profile projects, most notably in the Oscar-winning animated film ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.’
Friends and family praised her adventurous spirit as she enjoyed hiking, biking, and playing tennis. She also took pleasure in playing piano and exploring new activities, infusing energy and joy into every endeavor.
Her family shared, “She cherished time with her family and friends, finding joy in collaboration and storytelling. Her infectious enthusiasm and dedication to her work inspired countless others in the industry and beyond.”
Kelley Mack leaves behind her parents, Kristen and Lindsay Klebenow, her sister Kathryn, and her brother, actor Parker Mack, along with her grandparents Lois and Larry Klebenow and boyfriend Logan Lanier.
A celebration of Mack’s life will take place on August 16 at the Glendale Lyceum in Ohio, with another memorial service planned in Los Angeles. Fans and colleagues will surely remember not just her contributions to entertainment but the inspiring spirit she brought to every aspect of her life.
