Colombian Airline Flight HK-4709 Crashes Near Venezuelan Border
Colombia’s state-owned airline Satena has confirmed that Flight HK-4709 tragically crashed near the Colombian-Venezuelan border, resulting in the deaths of all 15 individuals on board, including a prominent Colombian congressman.
The Beechcraft 1900 aircraft commenced its journey on the Cúcuta-Ocaña route at 11:42 a.m. It was expected to reach its destination approximately 23 minutes later, around 12:05 p.m.
Authorities acknowledged the last contact with air traffic control occurred at 11:54 a.m. The aircraft, however, was anticipated to exhaust its flight endurance by 2 p.m.
Search and Recovery Efforts Initiated
As soon as officials noted the flight had lost contact, Satena promptly organized search efforts. Aircraft from the Colombian Aerospace Force, the National Army, and the charter flight company Searca began aerial reconnaissance in the regions where the last known data on the aircraft had been recorded. They also scoured the area corresponding to the plane’s intended flight path.
By 5:30 p.m., Satena confirmed the devastating news: the plane had crashed and there were no survivors. This information came from the president of the Community Action Board of the Curásica rural district within La Playa de Belén.
Victims Identified
The crew members aboard the ill-fated flight were Capt. Miguel Vanegas and Capt. Jose de la Vega. The 13 passengers included names such as María Álvarez Barbosa, Carlos Salcedo, Rolando Penaloza Gualdron, and Diogenes Quintero Amaya.
Diogenes Quintero Amaya held a significant political position as a member of the House of Representatives of Colombia, while Carlos Salcedo was a candidate for a House seat himself.
