A hiker tragically lost his life in Tennessee following a fatal snake bite incident at Savage Gulf State Park. Officials from the region revealed that the hiker encountered a venomous rattlesnake and suffered critical injuries.
Matthew Griffith, who represents the Grundy County Emergency Management Agency, confirmed that the Timber rattlesnake was likely responsible for the incident that occurred last Friday. This species is recognized by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency as the largest and most dangerous among the four venomous snakes native to Tennessee.
Eyewitness reports indicate that the hiker picked up the rattlesnake, which resulted in a bite to his hand. Griffith stated, “Initial indications suggest that the hiker experienced an allergic reaction. However, complete details regarding the precise cause of death are still pending.”
Authorities received a prompt response from multiple agencies to the incident location, approximately half a mile from the nearest trailhead. They immediately initiated CPR efforts. The hiker was subsequently transported to a hospital where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
