Djibril Gueye, a passionate fan from Senegal, expressed his disappointment when discussing the implications of the travel bans. Gueye stated that if the United States restricts entry for certain visitors, hosting the World Cup lacks fairness.

He emphasized that the U.S. must offer the necessary conditions and resources for all qualified countries to ensure their supporters can attend and cheer for their teams.

Another dedicated Senegalese supporter, Sheikh Sy, also shared his determination to attend the World Cup in 2026. He recalled his travels to Qatar for the last World Cup and reaffirmed his commitment to traveling with his team.

“We’ve traveled everywhere with our team because we are the national fans of Senegal,” Sy stated. “Given Senegal’s qualification for the World Cup, we must find a way to be there.”

Anticipation Builds Amid Uncertainty

The Senegal national team’s inaugural match will be against France on June 16, and fans like Fatou Diedhiou, president of a group of female Senegal supporters, remain hopeful about potential changes to travel policies.

The Ivory Coast’s national team is scheduled to play its first match on June 14 against Ecuador, while Haiti will make its debut on June 13 against Scotland, and Iran will face New Zealand on June 15.

In response to these challenges, President Trump announced a new visa system called the FIFA Pass in November, designed to prioritize appointment scheduling specifically for soccer fans. This initiative aims to facilitate easier access to the tournament.

Trump stated, “I’ve directed my administration to do everything within its power to make the 2026 World Cup an unprecedented success. With this FIFA Pass, we can ensure that legitimate football fans can attend the event in the best conditions.”

Furthermore, over 400 additional consular officers have been deployed to U.S. embassies worldwide to handle visa requests associated with the World Cup.
