FIRST ON FOX: The agency responsible for managing the United States government’s real estate holdings, procurement, and technology services has announced a partnership with Elon Musk’s xAI. This collaboration aims to effectively streamline federal workflows while leveraging advanced artificial intelligence systems.
The General Services Administration made the announcement on Thursday morning, revealing that federal agencies will soon gain access to advanced AI models Grok 4 and Grok 4 Fast as part of an agreement with xAI. This collaboration is set to continue until March 2027 and is designed to bolster innovation within government operations.
“xAI possesses the most powerful AI computational resources and the most capable AI models globally,” stated Musk, who is the co-founder and CEO of xAI, in a communication to Fox News Digital.
Musk further emphasized, “Thanks to President Trump and his administration, xAI’s pioneering AI capabilities are now accessible to every federal agency. This empowers the U.S. Government to innovate more rapidly and fulfill its mission more effectively.”
He confidently added, “We look forward to continuing our work with President Trump and his team to deploy AI throughout the government for the betterment of the country.”
Enhancing Government Efficiency Through AI
Josh Gruenbaum, the federal acquisition service commissioner at the GSA, explained in a press release that the widespread access to AI models will serve as an essential resource. This move not only aligns with Trump’s ambition for the United States to lead in the AI race but also contributes to “building an efficient and accountable government that taxpayers deserve.”
Under the agreement, engineers from xAI will provide comprehensive support to accelerate the adoption of Grok AI technology, which aims to transform government operations.
The new initiative between the GSA and xAI takes effect immediately, enabling federal agencies to begin utilizing the benefits of Grok AI models through established GSA procurement channels. This streamlined access will enhance the speed at which the government can leverage AI technologies.
Strategic Partnership Aims to Shape the Future of AI
Gruenbaum highlighted the significance of deploying these AI tools as they align with Trump’s objective of modernizing government operations and securing an edge over China in the evolving AI landscape. He pointed out that xAI stood out as a strong partner that brings exceptional technical talent to the table.
“This technology has the potential to be as transformative as the internet, if not more,” Gruenbaum commented on the advancements in artificial intelligence. “Currently, we are in the phase of human augmentation, but soon agents will be able to manage tasks with greater independence. This shift raises crucial questions about values—what data, history, and perspectives are embedded within these systems. It is vital that Western and American values shape the technologies that will influence the future.”
The agreement represents a critical milestone, unveiling the final frontier model as part of GSA’s comprehensive OneGov Strategy. It will also provide federal agencies with a path toward compliance with the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program, which standardizes essential security measures.
“The ‘Grok for Government’ initiative will deliver transformational AI solutions at an incredibly low cost of $0.42 per agency for an extended period of 18 months, along with a dedicated engineering team focused on ensuring mission success,” stated Ross Nordeen, co-founder of xAI.
Nordeen added, “We plan to collaborate closely with the entire government to not only implement AI but to thoroughly understand its application to meet government needs, ultimately establishing America as a global leader in advanced AI technologies.”
Gruenbaum noted the impressive speed at which these frontier models were integrated into the GSA schedules, highlighting the substantial cost savings involved.
“This agreement represents the best value yet, with the longest duration available. This achievement is significant,” he stated.
AI Action Plan Marks a New Era
Last month, the GSA announced the launch of a groundbreaking tool intended to assist agencies across the federal government in implementing artificial intelligence on a large scale, marking a significant advancement in rolling out the president’s comprehensive AI Action Plan.
The Trump administration unveiled its AI Action Plan in July, following Trump’s directive in January to outline a strategic approach for artificial intelligence. This initiative aims to solidify the United States’ role as the global leader in AI and ensure a brighter future for all Americans.
Trump has prioritized the growth of artificial intelligence during his administration, securing significant multimillion-dollar agreements with high-tech companies like Oracle and OpenAI for the Stargate project. This initiative focuses on establishing extensive data centers within the United States, in addition to a $90 billion investment deal aimed at transforming Pennsylvania into an American hub for AI technologies.
After concluding his tenure with the Department of Government Efficiency in late May, Musk, who experienced a public fallout with Trump, appeared at a memorial event last weekend in Arizona. Musk was seen engaging in conversation with Trump, indicating a possible restoration of their collaborative relationship.
“Elon approached me and said hello,” Trump shared with reporters post-event. “I thought it was pleasant; we had a brief conversation.”
A spokesperson for the GSA informed Fox News Digital that the partnership with xAI has been in development for several weeks.
