Trump Anticipates Compliance from USOPC and NCAA on Women’s Sports Executive Order

President Donald Trump expects the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) as well as the NCAA to adhere to his forthcoming executive order that prohibits biological men from participating in women’s sports. This expectation was articulated by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt during a briefing on Wednesday.

Trump intends to sign the executive order titled “No Men in Women’s Sports” later today. During the briefing, Leavitt addressed how this order could impact the 2028 Summer Olympics, set to be held in Los Angeles.

“He does expect the Olympic committee and the NCAA to no longer allow men to compete in women’s sports,” Leavitt stated. “I think the president, with the signing of his pen, starts a very public pressure campaign on these organizations to do the right thing for women and for girls.”

Leavitt also emphasized the popularity of this position, noting that many prominent female athletes have bravely voiced their opposition to powerful institutions regarding this issue. “They deserve to have a voice and a say,” she remarked. “The president is bringing their voice to the highest level of the White House. He expects these organizations to comply with this federal executive order he will be signing today.”

Historically, the U.S. Olympic team has not included a transgender woman. It has fielded an athlete identified as transgender nonbinary. Notably, Laurel Hubbard, a transgender woman, participated in weightlifting representing New Zealand, while Canadian soccer player Quinn announced their nonbinary and transgender identity in 2020.

The upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics sparked controversy as two boxers were allowed to compete in the women’s division. This raised questions about eligibility, but the International Olympic Committee affirmed that both athletes were eligible to compete in female weight classes.

Trump has highlighted fairness in women’s sports as a significant campaign issue, especially during his successful competition against former Vice President Kamala Harris in the November election.
