Former President Donald Trump is demanding answers regarding the assassination attempts against him, particularly one that occurred during a rally on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania. This incident has raised significant concerns for Trump, who asserts that the public deserves transparency about the circumstances surrounding these threats to his life.
During an executive order signing at the White House, Trump emphasized his desire for information about the attempts. He stated, “I want to find the answers. I’ve told them… We can no longer blame former President Joe Biden for that one. He should have released that a long time ago.”
The first assassination attempt involved a gunman named Thomas Crooks, 20, who opened fire during the rally. Crooks fatally shot a rally attendee, Corey Comperatore, and injured two others, David Dutch and James Copenhaver. Trump himself was narrowly grazed by a bullet, which heightened the urgency of the investigations that followed.
A summary of the investigation indicated that the July rally was a significant failure for the Secret Service, leading to calls for major operational, policy, and organizational changes within the agency.
Just two months later, Trump faced another assassination attempt while golfing at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. The suspect, Ryan Routh, allegedly targeted Trump with a firearm and remains in federal custody.
In a recent question-and-answer session with the press, Trump revealed that he expects to receive a report detailing both assassination attempts next week. He expressed his readiness to make this information public, stating, “I want to release it.”
Trump raised concerns about the behavior of the individuals involved in the attempts. He noted that Crooks had multiple cellphone applications, including two that he claimed were foreign. Trump said, “What’s that all about?” This insinuated that there might be ulterior motives at play regarding the backgrounds of those involved.
In reference to Routh, Trump pointed out that the suspect had an unusual number of cellphones as well. He remarked, “Why would somebody have six cellphones? So, we’re going to be releasing a report on that soon. It’s a lot of cellphones, and a couple of them had some strange markings on them.” This suspicious situation prompted Trump to question the intentions behind the actions of these alleged assailants.
Pointing to the lack of clear information, Trump commented, “It makes me think a little bit.” He suggested that when there are multiple apps involved, particularly foreign ones, combined with a reticent FBI, it raises a red flag. He articulated his concerns, positing, “I would say that could be suspicious.”
During his remarks, Trump commended the Secret Service for their response in intercepting Routh, who was reportedly spotted aiming a rifle at one of Trump’s security personnel while hiding in the bushes. This proactive action could have potentially saved lives and prevented further chaos during the incident.
Concluding his thoughts, Trump expressed his willingness to disclose findings related to the investigations but remained cautious. He said, “I want to find out, and I would be willing to release it. I mean, maybe there’s a reason that we shouldn’t. So, I don’t want to get too far ahead of my skis. But, yeah, I would be very willing to release that. I want to see that one myself.”
Amid ongoing concerns regarding the safety of public figures, Trump’s call for transparency shines a light on the complexities of security protocols and the necessity for accountability in the face of alarming events.
