On Friday, President Donald Trump announced his directive to the Justice Department to investigate the late financier Jeffrey Epstein’s connections with prominent Democrats and various banking institutions. This statement emerged as Trump sought to divert attention from a government shutdown, asserting that the Democrats were exploiting the Epstein narrative to distract from their own failures.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “Now that the Democrats are using the Epstein Hoax, involving Democrats, not Republicans, to try and deflect from their disastrous shutdown and all of their other failures, I will be asking AG Pam Bondi and the Department of Justice, together with our great patriots at the FBI, to investigate Jeffrey Epstein’s involvement and relationship with Bill Clinton, Larry Summers, Reid Hoffman, JPMorgan Chase, and many other people and institutions to determine what was going on with them and him.” Trump’s fiery comments indicated his belief that the allegations directed towards him were politically motivated.
