President Donald Trump’s approval rating has jumped to 47%, marking the highest level seen since the early days of his first term. This increase is notable given the political landscape, as revealed by a recent CNN poll.
The poll, conducted from February 13 to February 17, indicates that 52% of respondents disapprove of Trump’s performance. Among the Americans surveyed, 28% believe that securing the border represents Trump’s most significant achievement so far. This was followed by a plan to slash government expenditures alongside prominent tech figure Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency, which garnered 12% support.
Despite these accomplishments, a significant portion of the population feels that Trump needs to tackle the rising costs of everyday goods more effectively. The survey reveals that 62% of Americans think that the president has not sufficiently addressed this issue. This sentiment cuts across party lines, with 47% of Republicans, 65% of independents, and 73% of Democrats expressing similar concerns.
CNN’s survey involved a sample of 1,206 U.S. adults fluent in English and Spanish. The poll has a margin of error of 3.1%, which is standard for this type of research.
The CNN poll arrives amidst the release of three other significant polls revealing varying approval ratings. Notably, a Quinnipiac University survey found that 45% of voters approve of Trump’s handling of his presidential duties, while 49% disapprove. This marks a decline from the previous poll conducted in late January, which showed a narrow approval margin of 46% to 43%.
Another national poll from Gallup indicated a similar trend, showing Trump with a 45% approval rating and a 51% disapproval rate, reflecting a decrease from 47% approval and 48% disapproval reported late last month.
Moreover, the Reuters/Ipsos national survey presented on the same day reported Trump’s approval at 44%, with a disapproval of 51%. This also shows a decline from a previous poll in late January where Trump registered an approval rating of 45% to 46%.
The latest surveys conducted by various organizations suggest that Trump’s overall approval ratings have remained in slightly positive territory despite facing significant challenges. Trump’s rapid return to the White House has been characterized by an aggressive agenda, including a series of executive orders aimed at fulfilling key campaign promises.
In these initial weeks, the president has executed a high volume of actions that not only serve to establish his legacy but also resonate with his core supporters. By quickly implementing policies, Trump showcases his commitment to transforming federal operations, significantly cutting back on the federal workforce, and addressing long-standing political grievances.
As Trump navigates the complexities of his second term, his approval rating will be a crucial metric for evaluating his policies and overall effectiveness in the eyes of the American public. The high level of discontent regarding rising prices signifies a vital area of focus for the administration as it moves forward. Handling this sensitive issue could play a significant role in shaping public opinion and, ultimately, his political future.
The data revealed by these polls illustrates a divided nation concerning the president’s performance, yet many citizens remain engaged and hopeful that policies addressing economic pressures will soon emerge.
