The new energy strategy under President Donald Trump’s administration emphasizes a significant departure from the previous administration’s policies on climate change. Chris Wright, the Energy Secretary, declared that climate change should be acknowledged as a global physical phenomenon rather than a politically charged issue.
At a recent energy conference, Wright expressed strong disapproval of the climate policies initiated under former President Joe Biden. He rejected the label of ‘climate denier,’ positioning himself instead as a ‘climate realist.’
“The Trump administration will treat climate change for what it is, a global physical phenomenon that is a side effect of building the modern world,” Wright stated during his speech at S&P Global’s CERAWeek conference held in Houston. This statement marks a pivotal shift in the administration’s stance, contrasting sharply with Biden’s view that labeled climate change as the ‘ultimate threat to humanity.’
Wright elaborated on the shortcomings of the Biden-era policies, particularly criticizing mandates that limit consumer choice. For instance, he mentioned regulations on electric vehicles and household appliances.
“The main objectives of our policies will be to lower costs and enhance performance,” Wright explained. He replied to concerns about these aims, asking, “Is that radical?” He vehemently opposed the previous administration’s climate policies, describing them as irrational and excessively burdensome for average citizens.
Wright’s comments reflect a broader critique of the economic implications of the Biden administration’s climate initiatives. He argued that the policies have resulted in economic strain for citizens and a negative impact on businesses. According to Wright, the costs of these policies have outweighed any potential benefits, stating, “The cure was far more destructive than the disease.”
He added, “There are no winners in that world except for politicians and rapidly growing interest groups. The only interest group that we are concerned with is the American people.”
In addition to his criticism of previous policies, Wright announced progress regarding the liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector. He revealed approval for an export permit extension for Delfin LNG LLC, a project that was previously stalled under the Biden administration.
Wright underscored Trump’s commitment to prioritizing energy independence in his second term, declaring that
