FIRST ON FOX: In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital during the annual Jerusalem Post Conference in New York, Special Envoy for Hostage Response Adam Boehler addressed a Washington Post report that alleged President Donald Trump threatened to abandon Israel unless the conflict was resolved. Boehler promptly labeled the report as “fake news.”
“That sounds like fake news to me,” Boehler remarked. He further stated, “I believe the President has shown unwavering support for Israel. He may be saying, ‘Hey, listen, let’s try to end the war,’ and he might speak emphatically, but I feel that President Trump’s support for Israel remains unshakeable.”
In a separate statement, U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee also dismissed the report. Speaking with Israel’s Ynet, he asserted, “Their reporting is nonsense. They should pay attention to what the President articulates — not what some misinformed ‘source’ claims to know.”
Boehler reiterated the U.S. government’s main goal: the secure release of the 58 hostages currently held by Hamas. He noted, “There’s ongoing dialogue regarding this matter. The President has made it clear that he desires a resolution to this situation.”
Continuing, he commented on the fluidity of the situation, asserting, “I know that he and Steve [Witkoff] are working diligently to bring those hostages home. Our main priorities are the hostages first, followed by ensuring Israel’s security.”
On addressing the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Boehler discussed the recent decision to open borders for aid trucks after a protracted two-month blockade. He also considered the introduction of a new U.S.-backed initiative designed to potentially replace the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.
“There might need to be a replacement for UNRWA. We have encountered many challenges associated with the U.N. If this alternative successfully delivers food to the Palestinian community in need, I would support it wholeheartedly,” Boehler expressed.
During a live stage interview at the Jerusalem Post conference, Boehler reminisced about the harrowing experience surrounding the release of American-Israeli soldier Edan Alexander. “It was an out-of-this-world moment. The excitement and anxiety were palpable as we awaited updates in real-time. When the helicopter landed, knowing we had succeeded was beyond words. That first phone call remains unforgettable — it was on Mother’s Day, adding significant meaning for all of us involved,” he recalled.
When discussing the potential timeline for a hostage agreement, Boehler conveyed cautious optimism, stating, “I believe we are inching closer to reaching a deal. If Hamas is willing to present a genuine offer, they must be prepared to release hostages. We remain open to that possibility.”
He credited Israel’s recent military actions for increasing pressure on Hamas. “I genuinely think we are nearer to a resolution than we have ever been. Part of this stems from the operational advancements made by Israel and the IDF on the ground,” Boehler explained.
Addressing the recent joint statement from leaders of the United Kingdom, France, and Canada, who condemned Israel’s military operations in Gaza while calling for an immediate ceasefire, Boehler responded assertively. “The United States has consistently been a staunch ally of Israel. If I were in a European nation’s position, I would tread carefully before criticizing Israel,” he cautioned, underlining the long-standing U.S. support for Israel amidst growing tensions.
Boehler’s insights reflect a complex and evolving landscape surrounding hostages and international relations in the region. He emphasized the need for continuous focus on delivering aid and securing the freedom of hostages while navigating the delicate balance of geopolitical interactions.
As the situation develops, both the U.S. and Israel are expected to maintain their cooperative stance aimed at ensuring safety and humanitarian relief in the region. The ongoing efforts reveal not only the urgency of the hostage issues but also the significant challenges tied to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and international perceptions of Israel’s actions.
