University of North Carolina Professor Reinstated Following Controversy Over Political Violence Concerns

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has reinstated a professor after he was placed on administrative leave earlier this week due to allegations of supporting political violence. Dwayne Dixon, a Teaching Associate Professor with links to an anti-fascist gun organization, was evaluated following concerns raised by various reports.

Vice Chancellor for Communications and Marketing, Dean Stoyer, stated that the university conducted a thorough threat assessment regarding Dixon, taking into account the community’s apprehensions about his alleged advocacy for political violence. Ultimately, the findings indicated no evidence suggesting he posed a risk to students, faculty, or staff, nor did he violate any university policies.

Concerns Over Political Affiliations

Dixon’s placement on leave followed coverage by different media outlets, including discussions about his involvement with Redneck Revolt, a group established in 2016. This organization has been labeled as far-left by the Counter Extremism Project, which describes it as opposing capitalism and rejecting symbols of the state, such as the police and judicial systems.
