The air forces of the United States and Canada recently conducted vital joint military drills in Greenland, honing their skills for operations in extreme cold weather conditions. This significant training event occurred at Pituffik Air Force Base, the northernmost facility operated by the U.S. military.
From January 28 to February 11, Operation Noble Defender engaged around 100 service members. They faced harsh temperatures that frequently fell below zero degrees Fahrenheit, occasionally plunging to an astonishing -28 degrees.
Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Shemo, a senior officer involved in the training, expressed pride in the performance of the integrated American and Canadian teams. In a formal statement, he remarked that their ability to operate effectively in such demanding conditions illustrated their preparedness.
Shemo said, “Over the last three weeks, our integrated American and Canadian NORAD teams have demonstrated the ability to operate at the highest level in one of the most austere environments in the world.” He further emphasized gratitude for the ongoing cooperation from the Kingdom of Denmark while training for the defense of North America.
