The Venezuelan government has agreed to recommence deportation flights from the United States in response to increasing pressure from the Trump administration. This announcement came through Richard Grenell, a special envoy to President Donald Trump, who communicated the decision on social media.
As Trump intensifies his efforts to combat illegal immigration, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency has made substantial arrests, exceeding 32,000 nationwide. Some nations in Latin America had previously resisted accepting back their citizens who had illegally entered the United States.
Grenell disclosed that Nicolás Maduro, the socialist leader of Venezuela, has given the green light to renew deportation flights. This development comes after Maduro previously threatened to suspend these flights in response to Trump’s revocation of a special license that allowed U.S.-based Chevron to operate in Venezuela.
“I am pleased to announce that Venezuela has agreed to resume flights to pick up their citizens who broke U.S. immigration laws and entered the U.S. illegally,” Grenell stated, underscoring the administration’s commitment to immigration enforcement.
Starting Friday, deportation operations to Venezuela will recommence. This decision arrives at a particularly critical time, considering Venezuela is associated with a notorious migrant gang operating within U.S. borders. The Tren de Aragua gang has become a focal point for federal immigration enforcement, as many of its members face deportation.
John Fabbricatore, a visiting fellow at the Heritage Foundation’s Border Security and Immigration Center, expressed optimism regarding the deportation process. He believes this agreement will enhance the efficacy of the administration’s deportation initiatives.
“President Trump has worked diligently to ensure deportation flights continue to countries that previously resisted,” Fabbricatore stated.
