Vice President JD Vance expressed confidence that the United States has successfully dismantled Iran’s nuclear program. This statement followed President Donald Trump’s announcement on his Truth Social platform regarding a complete and total ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
During an appearance on “Special Report” Monday, Vance revealed he had exited the White House shortly before Trump shared news of the ceasefire but indicated he was aware of the evolving situation.
Vance remarked, “First of all, the president, without, knock on wood, having a single American casualty, obliterated the Iranian nuclear program. We are now in a place where we weren’t a week ago. A week ago, Iran was very close to having a nuclear weapon. Now Iran is incapable of building a nuclear weapon with the equipment they possess because we destroyed it.”
The United States launched targeted strikes on Iran’s Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear facilities during a military operation dubbed Midnight Hammer. The operation involved deploying 14 GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrators against key target areas, including Fordow and Natanz, while a U.S. submarine fired over two dozen Tomahawk missiles at Isfahan.
The extent of damage inflicted upon these sites will require time to fully assess. However, initial evaluations suggest that all three locations experienced highly severe damage and destruction, as stated by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine.
Caine informed reporters that the operation engaged more than 125 U.S. aircraft, which encompassed B-2 stealth bombers alongside numerous air refueling tankers and a guided missile submarine.
Vance discussed the U.S. government’s commitment to preventing Iran from reestablishing its nuclear capabilities following this military engagement. He remarked, “Look, this is a great thing. For Israel, this represents the achievement of a significant military objective. They’ve helped us destroy the Iranian nuclear program and significantly weakened the conventional missile capabilities of Iran that posed a threat to Israel.”
Looking toward the future, Vance noted, “For the Iranians, this is a new opportunity to pursue the path of peace. As I mentioned yesterday, the Iran’s continued support of terrorism and their failed attempts to develop a nuclear weapon illustrate that they are not particularly skilled in warfare.”
He further asserted that Trump aimed to reset relations in the region, suggesting that future assessments would recognize the recent crisis as a pivotal moment for stability across the area.
Trump elaborated on the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran, indicating that it would come into effect within approximately six hours. He stated this would occur once both countries have concluded their ongoing missions.
Just hours prior to the ceasefire declaration, Iran retaliated by firing at least 14 missiles at the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. This countermeasure represents a direct response to the U.S. strikes.
According to Trump, the ceasefire is expected to be implemented gradually over the coming 24 hours.
Vance added, “I think what the Iranians have demonstrated is that they do not wish for this conflict to continue. Their air defenses have been severely compromised. Their conventional missile program has sustained significant damage, and their nuclear program has been completely dismantled, as I noted earlier.”
As the situation develops, both the international community and political analysts will undoubtedly monitor its implications for regional stability and future diplomatic relations. The commitment to uphold peace appears paramount, as leaders navigate the complex dynamics of the Middle East’s geopolitical landscape.
