Willie Robertson continues to honor his father’s legacy and keep the faith alive both on-screen and off-screen. As preparations intensify for the second season of “Duck Dynasty: The Revival”, the Robertson family plans a heartfelt tribute to Phil Robertson, their beloved patriarch, who passed away earlier this year.
The timing of Phil’s death, according to Willie, felt almost prophetic. It coincided closely with the show’s premiere, creating a powerful narrative of family and faith.
Willie shared in an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital that the release of the new season, just days after Phil’s passing, highlighted the importance of family ties.
He stated, “I think it was such a pass-over, literally, because the show came out when Phil passed away, just within a few days of each other.” Willie emphasized, “We miss Phil for sure and would love to, obviously, still talk to him and have him around. However, I think he was ready to roll; he’s ready to move on to the next life, which he talked about every day of his life while he was here on this Earth.”
Filming without Phil has posed emotional challenges for Willie. Nevertheless, he believes his father would be proud of how the family has continued to uphold their values and traditions. Willie remarked, “It’s sad, but I think he’d be happy. He’d be happy that we kept it going — especially with faith as a core part of the show.” He added humorously, “Maybe not as many ducks as he would have liked with this next generation, but we’re working on it.”
Phil Robertson, who founded the Duck Commander company that became central to the family’s A&E show, passed away at the age of 79 after battling health issues, including early-stage Alzheimer’s disease.
In the upcoming season of “Duck Dynasty: The Revival”, Willie aims to offer a wholesome depiction of family life that counters the negativity often portrayed on television. He asserted that seeing a healthy family dynamic is crucial for America during these challenging times.
Willie expressed, “I think right now it’s important for the country to see a family, to see a healthy family, and to see joy in the things that come out of our family.” He reflected on the positive feedback they received from viewers, stating, “We certainly saw that before with our family, where so many people would come to us and just say, ‘Thank you for putting that on.’” He added, “Maybe we can’t all live by each other; we can’t all sit together and have a prayer at the end of a meal. But we love seeing that. It helps encourage us. And so I think in these times — I think that can be helpful.”
Willie’s role as the steadfast patriarch of the Robertson clan remains unchanged. He noted the enduring importance of faith within their family structure. He remarked, “The anchor has been the faith that goes back to our three things that we started ‘Duck Dynasty’ with: faith, family, and ducks — in that order.”
Reflecting on the importance of priorities, Willie stated the need to keep faith at the forefront, especially as life can sometimes lead individuals astray. He explained, “What happens in life is things will start getting ahead of the other. So you’ll look up and maybe you’re like, ‘Uh-oh, my faith is sliding a little bit.’”
Willie highlighted that nurturing their faith contributes to maintaining family unity. He shared, “We’ve noticed that it helps. The stronger our faith is, the more it helps keep our families together. When the family’s together, it can help whatever you’re doing at work.”
This strong family dynamic is not only a critical element of their personal lives but also manifests authentically on screen. Willie pointed out, “If not, you’ll definitely see it at work — you’ll see it show up, especially on a show like this. If there were trouble at home with us, you would certainly see it on the camera.”
Despite their busy filming schedules, the Robertsons have maintained their Louisiana roots and continue to prioritize family dinners. Korie Robertson, the matriarch of the family, shared insights into striking a balance between fame and family traditions. Recently launching a handbag line, she remains focused on keeping family dinners sacred.
Korie explained, “We really understood from the very beginning that this was something bigger than us. It wasn’t about you or me getting famous. It was about something bigger than us.” She added that keeping faith at the center of their family life is crucial, noting the impact prayer has had during their dinner gatherings.
As Season 2 of “Duck Dynasty: The Revival” is currently in production, fans eagerly anticipate its premiere date. Willie and his family are excited to share more of their life with audiences and showcase the enduring values of faith and family that have defined their journey.
