Witnesses Recall Chilling Encounter with Suspect Before Double Murder at Devil’s Den State Park

A couple visiting Devil’s Den State Park on the tragic day of a double murder reported an unsettling encounter with the man accused of committing the crime. They described receiving a “death stare” from 28-year-old Andrew James McGann just moments before the attack.

Tony Brueski, the host of the podcast “Hidden Killers,” shared this information during an interview with NewsNation. The couple, along with a sibling and their pet dog, felt something was off when they encountered a man matching McGann’s description while hiking.

Brueski explained the disconcerting vibes they felt. “The couple noticed the man was dressed entirely in black and carried a large mesh athletic bag, which struck them as very unusual,” he said.

Witnessing such behavior left them deeply troubled. “They described feeling bad energy from him and noted that he gave them what they referred to as a ‘death stare,'” Brueski reported.

Upon seeing McGann’s photo released by law enforcement, the couple immediately recognized him as the man they had seen on that fateful day, July 26. This chilling revelation came as investigators continued piecing together the events surrounding the murder of Clinton Brink, 43, and his wife, Cristen Brink, 41.

In addition to this eyewitness account, others also reported seeing a car belonging to the suspect with duct tape covering the license plate. Brueski suggested that the attacker had planned the crime, noting, “Based on the man’s attire and the backpack he carried, he seemed very prepared.”

Despite these observations, law enforcement is careful with their assertions. Arkansas State Police (ASP) Director Col. Mike Hagar reassured the public on Thursday that there is no evidence to suggest that the murders were targeted. According to him, the attack appears to be a completely random event.

“We have no reason to believe there was any known connection between our suspect and our victims,” Hagar stated during a press conference. The tragic incident unfolded while the Brinks hiked with their two daughters, ages 7 and 9, who thankfully were not harmed and are now under the care of family.

Authorities revealed that the couple died from stab wounds, with a knife being confirmed as the murder weapon. Hagar noted that McGann sustained injuries during the attack, and blood discovered at the crime scene played a crucial role in leading investigators to him.

Evidence quickly mounted against McGann. The suspect reportedly confessed to the murders, and DNA evidence confirmed his presence at the crime scene. Hagar emphasized the importance of due process, saying, “Although everyone is innocent until proven guilty, we did confirm that the suspect’s DNA matches the DNA recovered at the crime scene.” He added that McGann admitted to the crime during an interview with investigators.

Law enforcement executed a search warrant at McGann’s residence, finding items consistent with the brutal murder. This evidence has added urgency to the investigation, prompting swift action.

McGann was apprehended at a barbershop in Springdale at 4:57 p.m. on Wednesday. Arkansas State Police officials revealed that he was in the middle of a haircut when they located him, just days after the heinous attack on the Brinks.

Charged with two counts of capital murder, McGann is scheduled for arraignment on August 14. Representatives from Fox News Digital have reached out to the Arkansas State Police for additional insights into the case.
