Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani has secured a historic victory in the New York City mayoral primary, achieving the highest number of votes ever recorded in this election category. This significant milestone cements his status as a polarizing figure within the city’s political landscape.
Updated ranked-choice voting totals from the NYC Board of Elections reveal that Mamdani garnered 565,639 votes, surpassing the previous record held by David N. Dinkins, who received 547,901 votes in 1989. This updated count marks a pivotal moment in the history of NYC elections.
